Around 750 runners descended on Danson Park yesterday (May 17) to take part in Bexley's first colour run, in aid of Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.

They began the event dressed in gleaming white before being splattered with powder paint at intervals throughout the 5k route.

By the end the rainbow coloured runners went home head to toe in paint, having raised an estimated £20,000 in the process.

Community fundraiser at Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice, Megan Boyle, from Shooters Hill, said they had to extend the maximum capacity from 500 to 750 after the event sold out so quickly.

"It's the first of its kind locally," said the 23-year-old. "We have seen a lot of brand new supporters for the hospice sign-up off the back of this event.

She said runners have raised a variety of amounts, with one team reaching £1,000.

"We have been really surprised by the sponsorship people have pledged. We're really excited for it to start to come in," said Megan.

After Sunday's success the hospice is planning on making next year's event bigger and better.
