The story of a "bubbly" four-year-old who is fighting cancer has touched the people of Bexley, who are digging deep to support her family.

Hurst Primary School pupil Evie Moger was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia three weeks ago on April 15, and was immediately taken into hospital.

Luckily, the cancer was caught in the early stages after a routine blood test, meaning little Evie is as strong as possible for the chemotherapy which she is currently undergoing.

Her dad Doug Moger said: "It was certainly unexpected. I felt a bit frightened, but almost thankful it was caught as early as it was."

The dad-of-three added: "We are trying to stay positive for our daughters."

Evie’s parents are keeping her company at the Royal Marsden Hospital, doing two-day shifts to ensure she is never left alone.

QVC buyer Mr Moger said: "Evie’s constantly got someone with her. It’s essential.

"For a four-year-old it would be frightening without her parents."

He added: "Evie’s always singing. She’s a bubbly little character. She’s almost like an elf. She loves her dancing. She’s a little girly girl."

The family live an hour drive from the Sutton hospital, and friends have rallied round to raise funds for petrol, £14-a-day parking, food and hotel accommodation.

They also plan to organise treats for Evie, who wants to visit Peppa Pig World, and is a big fan of Frozen, Katy Perry and Olly Murs.

Mr Moger said: "The community’s really come together. It’s been quite overwhelming and we really want to give our thanks.

"I am a proud man and I do not take help easily. It’s been humbling.

"My work have been very accommodating. At the moment they are allowing me to work from home where I can."

Friends of the family are looking for 20 teams to play in a 5-a-side football tournament at GOALS in Bexleyheath on Saturday June 28.

They are also planning a fundraising auction and other events.

The Evie’s Wish Just Giving page has received over £4,500 in donations so far.
