TV stars, presenters and musicians descended on Bexleyheath to raise the profile of a 'horrific' disease.

Actors from Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Call the Midwife flocked to the Marriott Hotel in Broadway for a star-studded charity ball organised by Dartford actress, Kirsty J Curtis to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

The 26-year-old lost her uncle David to the disease in December 2010 after caring for him for a year before his death, alongside her mum.

She said: "She said: "My uncle was like my dad.

"I've not seen my dad since I was 14 so he was like the next best thing.

"My uncle was such a healthy, normal, funny bloke until one day he kept getting migraines so visited the doctors and what he found out was not what he would have dreamed about.

"It has got to be the most horrific illness I've seen, watching someone you love just change and deteriorate in front of your eyes is hard.

"The worse thing was that his body was dying but his mind was still aware."

The event raised £4315.18 for MNDA.

She added: "Thee months of preparation, never been so stressed in all my life but to see over 200 happy faces and to raise such a staggering amount for MNDA is just mind blowing.

"It was worth the stress and the tears and the sleepless nights.

"My uncle David would be proud."

Miss Curtis completed Sunday's (April 26) London Marathon in four hours and 22 minutes, taking her fundraising total for MNDA to £8,337.72

The actress, who has starred in Call the Midwife and Bird's of a Feather said: "It was a amazing.

"I didn't stop all the way round until I saw my family and friends.

"Now I want to do another one to beat my time."
