A Kent man is warning people to check parking tickets carefully after he received an invalid parking ticket, which has since been cancelled.

Bexley Council admitted his ticket was "technically incorrect" because they gave the Sidcup road, where James Morgan parked on double yellow lines, the wrong name.

The ticket referred to Sherwood Park Service Road instead of Sherwood Park Avenue, and Mr Morgan was facing a £55 fine, which was later raised to £110 when he refused to pay.

He said: "Obviously they have made a serious mistake in this.

"They have been charging people when they do not have a legal right for it.

"There is no such name as Sherwood Park Service Road."

Bexley Council later cancelled the ticket on April 10, over a month after its initial issuing on February 25, admitting that it was invalid.

The Rainham resident said: "I am more concerned about other people being charged for this.

"They just want the money. I know the law of a double yellow line but you do need the correct road name on a ticket."

"I will not be the only one who has received a ticket on that lane."

A Bexley Council spokesman said: "We are aware of this case and the fact that, although there was a contravention of the parking restrictions, there was a difference between the road name and that shown in the ticket.

"This is the only case that we are aware of in this road."

Anyone who feels they have been issued a parking ticket unfairly can appeal it here.
