Prime Minister David Cameron has tipped London Mayor Boris Johnson as a possible future Tory party leader.

Mr Cameron ruled out a third term as Prime Minister if the Tories win the election in May.

He told the BBC on Monday (March 23) he would serve ‘a full second term’ but would not put himself forward after 2020.

Mr Cameron suggested three senior Tories as replacements including London’s Mayor, Home Secretary Theresa May and Chancellor George Osborne.

He said: “The Conservative Party has got some great people coming up: the Theresa Mays, and the George Osbornes, and the Boris Johnsons.

“You know, there’s plenty of talent there.”

The news came on the same day Mr Johnson, not currently an MP, threw his hat into the ring as Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear replacement.

During a Q&A session on Twitter titled #askboris, he described himself as a “mega Clarkson fan” and added that he’d “def let his name go forward” to replace the presenter.

Mr Clarkson, who was suspended after allegedly punching producer Oisin Tymon during a row over a steak dinner on set, could find out his fate later today.
