A solar eclipse ‘supertide’ caused The Thames to burst its banks on the weekend, flooding roads in Erith and around London.
River water flowed into Erith High Street and the walkway around the Riverside Gardens on Saturday afternoon (March 21).
The high tide was provoked by Friday’s underwhelming eclipse.
Erith resident Karen Elliot said: “At 1.15pm I heard what sounded like the tide coming in but much louder than normal.
“I looked out of the window and saw the path was being cut off by water.”
She added: “We get high tides but not usually like this.”
The eclipse itself may have been hidden by clouds in South East London and Kent, but it left its mark by causing a ‘super moon’.
The tidal surges peaked at around 3.30pm.
