A Bexley woman’s ligaments "came away from her bones" after stumbling over a maintenance pipe during her training for two charity marathons.

Christine Campany, of The Drive, was running in preparation for the Ironman run and the London Marathon,  both of which she is doing to raise money for Parkinson's disease, which affects her father.

The 54-year-old tripped over the Thames Water pipe on Blendon Road and is now suffering ligament damage which could take eight weeks to heal, as well as cuts and bruises.

She said: "There was a sign but there was no light at the time so it was dark to see.

"The injury on my left hand is making it difficult to unscrew jars, get out of the bath, reverse my car or cycle my bike.
