A special policing unit has been introduced to Thamesmead following the murder of Olamide Fasina.
Mr Fasina, known to friends as Ben, was chased into an alleyway off Wolvercote Road on October 14, before being stabbed in the heart.
After the murder, residents claimed that areas of Thamesmead were 'being run by gangs.'
Grant Thompson, 43, who was brought up in the area, said: "If they see a weakness then you are getting mugged at knife point for your phone, money and anything else that they want.
"And why are they doing this? Because they can as there's no police policing this estate."
Ten extra officers have now been introduced to patrol the whole of Thamesmead after residents questioned why the police treat Thamesmead as two wards, East and West.
PC Chris Molnar from the Thamesmead East safer neighbourhood team said: "We have worked with our local residents and partners and we are delighted to be able to give our residents what they requested.
"There is still a lot of work to be done and we urge residents to work with us and tell us your local issues."
Four men have been charged following the murder the Mr Fasina.
Olamide Fasina
Bliss Buodo, 22, of Edgington Road, Abbey Wood; Louis Henry, 21, of no fixed address and Alvin Ansah-Baathy have been charged with murder.
Steven Ngolo, 22, of Portmeadow Walk, Abbey Wood, has been charged with conspiracy to cause GBH.
Three other men remain on bail as part of the investigation.
