A Sidcup RAF airman is setting his sight's on bagging a Christmas number one.

Former Bexley Grammar School pupil, Flight Lieutenant David Emeny-Smith, is hoping to hit the most important number one spot of the year as part of an ensemble of military of voices including the RAF Spitfire Choir.

The 36-year-old, who joined the choir in September 2013, told News Shopper of the amazing experience he had recording the track '1914 - The Carol of Christmas'.

He said: "We were down in London doing a performance for Poppy Day and in the evening we ended up in a studio recording the choir parts on this song.

"I'm a musician at heart so to be in a studio where lots of famous artists have recorded tracks and to see how tracks are arranged was amazing."

Flt Lt Emeny-Smith, who grew up in Sidcup but now lives in Lincolnshire, joined the RAF in 2000 as a Navigator and has flown the Tornado GR4 on operations in Iraq and also completed an exchange tour, flying with the German Air Force. #

He said: "I am immensely proud to have taken part in the recording of this amazing song, and I have my fingers crossed that the British public will get behind it and help raise money for the three Forces charities.

"It's not about getting a hit single, we understand how hard that is, it's about raising as much as we can for these incredible charities."

Proceeds from the sale of the single will go to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
