Erith residents have voiced concerns over innovative plans to renovate Erith Quarry.

A public exhibition on the plans, proposed by Essex developer the Anderson Group, took place at Trinity School, Erith Road, Belvedere.

Those who attended the event voiced concerns about the levels of traffic the site, which will include 600 homes, a primary school for 630 pupils and a 3.1 hectare grassland habitat, would create.

Erith Quarry as it is now

Mary Pacey, 45, who lives in Althol Road, Belvedere said: "We've only been in the road two years.

"People live there because it's a good, quiet road but it won't be for much longer with this going on now."

Pensioner Terry Hooton, who lives in Carlton Road, Erith, added: "I think there are too many houses - more people means more cars.

"Carlton Road is a nightmare to get down anyway and with another, say, 1000 cars coming out on Fraser Road it will be near impossible."

The site is set to be built over a period of 10 years, with the first stage - the new primary school - due to be opened in September 2017.

A spokesman for the Anderson Group said: "We were really pleased to see so many people at our consultation in July and found the comments from the community very helpful.

"This consultation was aimed at answering more specific queries and questions.

"During the past few months we have been considering feedback and working with the Greater London Authority and London Borough of Bexley on detailed proposals."

Councillor Joe Ferreira for Erith said: "Myself and my fellow ward Councillors Abena Oppong-Asare and Edward Boateng have been contacted by residents regarding the site, with many comments being positive. However, with a project of this size, there have naturally been some concerns.

"Residents will have a chance to comment on any planning application before it is considered, and I would invite residents near the site to use that opportunity to have their say and raise any concerns."

The group hope to submit a planning application in November.
