Sunny spells over the weekend look set to be the calm before the storm in the south east with strong winds expected early next week.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning over strong winds due to hit London and the south east on Monday night and Tuesday Morning.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Whilst strong winds and heavy rain are likely on Monday night the strongest winds are expected as the rain clears eastwards and winds veer northwesterly through Tuesday morning.

"The public should be aware of the potential for significant disruption to travel and difficult driving conditions."

The winds set to hit the area are the tail-end of Hurricane Gonzalo which has come off the Atlantic, causing severe damage to homes in Bermuda last night.
