A Sidcup schoolgirl has won a competition for a drawing she did whilst staying at Darenth Valley Hospital.

Ellie Merryweather, nine, took part in the contest when she spent a few days in the facility for abdominal pain.

Young patients were asked to submit a drawing illustrating their favourite way to play or relax whilst in hospital.

Ellie’s mum Laura said: "It was a lovely surprise when we heard from Starlight telling us Ellie had been chosen as the regional winner for the South of England.News Shopper:

“Ellie loves singing so it was easy for her to choose what to draw and it has cheered her up whilst she is feeling poorly."

Children’s charity Starlight Children’s Foundation ran the competition to support National Play in Hospital Week (NPIHW).

The charity received hundreds of entries from all over the UK and Ellie won for the South of England region with her picture of young patient in bed creating artwork.

Ellie, who goes to Orchard Primary school in Oxford Road, Sidcup, won a glitter nail salon for her efforts.
