Victorian Britain collided with the space age at a first-of-its-kind event in Abbey Wood.

Steampunk imagines an alternate time or world in which 19th Century culture is transplanted into the modern technological age.

The genre’s enthusiasts dress up in Victorian clothing but with steampunk aids such as clockwork iPads and steam-powered skate boards.

On September 28 Crossness Pumping Station in Belvedere Road welcomed more than 300 devotees for a day of steampunk fun.

The event included a demonstration of large Tesla Coils running in the un-restored Eastern Engine House.

Organiser and Crossness trustee Dave Coles said of the event, which was part of the Totally Thames festival: "It was a fabulous day.

"The whole thing melded so well together, including a steampunk morris dancing troupe and an accordion orchestra.

"It was hugely fun."
