The mother of a Bexleyheath school boy who died from a sudden cardiac arrest has organised an evening of music in a bid to install life-saving defibrillators in 17 schools across the borough.

Juliet Lamin from Belvedere lost her 16-year-old son Philip after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a game of football on February 5 last year.

Following her only son's death Mrs Lamin set up a youth group to support Philip's friends called PL9.

Together they have purchased eight defibrillators and hope the concert will be the final push needed to reach their target of buying 11 before the end of the year.

She said: "To fulfil my goal for the end of the year I want to buy three more defibrillators.

"Some schools have already installed them and this is fantastic.

"I am aware that if there had been a defibrillator at the school on the day of Philip's death then there would have been chances of him surviving."

The event will see pupils from at least 14 schools from across Bexley and Greenwich take part in a variety of performances from spoken word to dance as a tribute to music-loving footballer Philip.

Mrs Lamin added: "Philip loved music - his three passions were music, sport and school - he was very talented and so are a lot of young people in Bexley.

"They pay all this money to see live music elsewhere but there is so much talent on their doorstep."

The loving mother has now dedicated her life to reducing the numbers of young people who die from cardiac arrests each year.

She said: "Philip was my only child and now I want to dedicate my life to making sure other young people get to enjoy their lives.

"Our next goal will be to bring heart screening into Bexley schools - we did a screening last year and found five young people with the same condition as Philip."
