A furious Thamesmead mother is looking for answers after the bench her three-year-old daughter was sitting on collapsed - landing her in A & E.

Kirby Durant, aged 27, of Redbourne Drive was waiting at a bus stop in Southwood Road, Thamesmead with daughter, Lilly-may Tullett on September 20 when the bench came away from the bus shelter - throwing her to the floor.

Miss Durant said: "Lilly-may had just climbed herself on the seat when the whole seat came off and Lilly landed on the floor hitting her head and back - she instantly screamed and cried. She was clearly in distress."

Lilly-may complained of back pain and vomited after her fall, so her mother took her to the A&E department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich where he was given pain killers for bruising on her back.

She added: "I rang the number on the bus shelter and they said someone would contact me and someone would be out to fix it soon as possible - no one did ring me and still the bus stop seat was still broken a few days later (September 23)."

Gary Snewing, TfL’s Regional Manager (South) Bus Infrastructure, said: “We were sorry to learn of this incident. Our engineers have inspected the bus shelter and we believe it had been vandalised. "The seat on the bus shelter has now been repaired and we apologise for any inconvenience whilst the seat was broken.”
