Weightlifter Zoe Smith has been inducted into a hall of fame for top young athletes.

In an event held at Madame Tussauds, the 20-year-old’s accomplishments were celebrated. Induction into the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Hall of Fame is granted to sport stars that have gone on to achieve worldwide success, having previously taken part in the London Youth Games.

The weightlifter, from Abbey Wood, got involved in the sport when she was asked to try out for the Greenwich team as part of the London Youth Games.

She had originally been a gymnast but was soon breaking numerous British records in weightlifting. She went on to be selected for the London 2012 Olympics and won gold at the Commonwealth Games this year.

Ms Smith said: "It is nice to finally be inducted. I’ve been coming to these ever since I started running and I was just starting to think it was never going to happen for me."

Previous inductees into the Hall of Fame have included Mo Farah and Bradley Wiggins.
