An impressive flower bed commemorating the outbreak of the First World War had been installed at a Bexleyheath cemetery.
The tribute, which features a red poppy design created from red begonias, on a bed of white begonias, is sponsored by Kier Services, Bexley Council's grounds maintenance contractor.
The wording, picked out in yellow flowers, reads: '100 years', the dates '1914' and '2014' and finishes with the reference 'World War 1'.
Work on the flower bed began two months ago and was created using around 1,900 plants.
The display will be maintained until 2018 to mirror the 1914-18 war period.
An official ceremony marking the installation of the flower bed took place on August 19.
Bexley Mayor Cllr Harold Marriner said: "The Mayoress and I were proud to attend the formal adoption by the London Borough of Bexley of the Commemorative Flower Bed at Bexleyheath Cemetery in the presence of members of the Royal British Legion, Bexley Heritage Trust and Kier Services who had worked with our Parks and Open Spaces team to bring to fruition the vision of our World War 1 Steering Group.
"The project is a fitting tribute to our former residents who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War 1914-18."
