A TAKEAWAY in Erith was temporarily closed by Bexley Council amid hygiene fears.

Kebab Express in Bexley Road was found to have breached food safety requirements during an inspection by the local authority's environmental health officers last month.

The fast-food outlet was given a final warning.

Officers returned the following day to find conditions hadn’t improved and a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was issued.

The shop remained shut for six days but reopened on September 18 after conditions improved.

Cllr Gareth Bacon, Bexley Council's cabinet member for the Environment and Public Realm said: “While we appreciate the many and varied pressures that food business operators continue to face, they need to ensure that their businesses are operating hygienically at all times and that the food they are selling is safe to eat.

"Thankfully such an extreme measure as this is rare in Bexley, but where we identify significant risks we will take the necessary steps to ensure public safety."
