NEWS Shopper is backing a campaign by colleges to get the Department for Education to make changes to the way education league tables are put together.

At the moment schools and colleges appear alongside each other on tables which list how many students achieve three A Levels.

But the Association for Colleges says this gives a poor reflection of colleges where students combine vocational qualifications and A Levels.

Its director of policy Joy Mercer said: “The performance tables with their numerous measures need to be seen in the context of merely placing information in the public domain.

“They fail to provide a clear indication of where the best choice and chance of success lies for a young person at 16.”
