A BELVEDERE school caught up in a row about “cutting and pasting” Ofsted reports is improving, according to an inspector.

Belvedere Junior School, in Mitchell Close, was placed in special measures following a damning report in March last year, which branded it ‘inadequate’ in three out of four categories.

But in June, the schools Ofsted inspection hit the headlines when the critical report shared a number of similarities with the report of Malmesbury Primary School, in Tower Hamlets.

The school underwent its second monitoring inspection since being placed in special measures shortly before the Christmas holidays, on December 12 and 13.

Inspector Hilary Macdonald deemed the school’s progress since the previous monitoring inspection was ‘good’ whilst overall progress since being placed in special measures was ‘satisfactory.’

In the report, Ms Macdonald wrote: “There have been significant changes in the leadership arrangements of the school.

“The school's original headteacher has resigned and an executive headteacher and an interim head of school commenced in September 2012.

“Plans are in place for the school to become an academy from March and an experienced governor from the partner school has joined the governing body.”

Pupils taking Key Stage 2 tests in June last year also showed signs of improvement, with students results in mathematics and reading being in line with the national average.

Lesson planning across the school was also described as “consistently high in all classes.”

The school remains in special measures and newly qualified teachers can still not be appointed.
