A FIRE in an Abbey Wood flat this morning (Jan 30) caused no injuries but destroyed the ground floor.
Fire crews were called to Finchdale Road at 2.39am and the blaze was under control in 40 minutes.
Four fire engines from Plumstead, Woolwich, and Erith arrived at the scene with 21 firefighters.
Crew Manager Kevin Hurrell said: “The fire was quite fierce and, despite getting there quickly, there were flames coming out of the front door when we arrived.
"Crews did very well and the fire was out swiftly. The flat is very badly damaged, so it's very lucky that no one was injured."
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation by London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
