SOUTHEASTERN is reporting problems with its train services today (January 20) due to the wintry weather.

There is disruption between Orpington and Victoria, between Orpington and Charing Cross and between Orpington and Blackfriars.

It says snow is causing delays of up to 20 minutes to these services.

Trains to and from Charing Cross are unable to call at Lewisham due to a signalling problem caused by the weather.

And there are delays of up to 30 minutes between Hayes and Lewisham due to an earlier broken down train at West Wickham.

I can recall the winter of '78-'79, it was dominated by strikes, & snow.

On one occasion, a rep from the NUR commented "It's just as well that we were on strike yesterday, because otherwise there would have chaos".
