THE DOG stabbed during an attack in Erith is set to make a full recovery.

Police officers were called to Avenue Road at 1:11pm on Tuesday (October 23) where they found a 49-year-old man with knife wounds.

During the attack, News Shopper was told by eye-witnesses how a black Rottweiler dog named Poppy also received stab wounds.

She was taken to People's Dispensary for Sick Animals in Eynsham Drive, Thamesmead, where she remains today (October 25).

But tomorrow, she is expected to return home to her owner.

Nikky Markin, of Coronation Court, described how she saw Poppy shortly after she had been attacked.

The 30-year-old told News Shopper: “His neighbour was shouting ‘they have stabbed my dog’.

“I went into his flat and the dog was bleeding from its neck and from its bum.

“He tried to stem the bleeding with a tea-towel.

“There was just blood on the walls and on the floor – the place was full of blood.”

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault shortly after the incident remains in custody and is still being questioned.

Witnesses should call 020 8284 9171 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
