HUNDREDS of mourners gathered at the funeral of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen to pay tribute to a "beautiful son" and "gentle giant".

Jimmy, aged 16, was killed when his throat was slashed with broken glass during a fight at the Three Cooks Bakery, Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, on May 10.

His mother Margaret Mizen, aged 55, held back tears as she remembered her "gentle giant" at the funeral service held today at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in Burnt Ash Hill.

Mrs Mizen said: "I can't believe we are here now. He really was a beautiful son."

She added: "I never told him off. Apart from saying put your socks in the dirty washing basket."

Her husband Barry, 56, told the congregation Jimmy was "a lovely boy" who had his mother's smile.

Jimmy's six brothers each made a personal tribute to him during the service and his sister Samantha, aged 21, laid a bouquet of flowers outside the bakery where he was killed.

  • Jake Fahri, aged 19, of Milborough Crescent, Lee, will appear at the Old Bailey on August 21 charged with Jimmy's murder.

I saw Mr and Mrs Mizen on BB1 this morning and once again they displayed great dignity and Jimmy would be so proud of them as they were of him.

x, I understand the family of the accused were instrumental in helping the police track down their son, who had gone into hiding. Remember the words of Jimmy's mum, who says that it was anger that took her beloved son, and therefore she cannot feel anger towards the accused.

RIP Jimmy you will be missed by family friends neighbours and the general public who have felt your loss. Lets hope the young man responisble will not see freedom tis side of his 50th birthday. Judges have to get the message across this type of behaviour will not be tolerated on our streets. RIP Jimmy.
