ERITH and Thamesmead MP Teresa Pearce has joined a Paralympic hero in praising Britain's young volunteers.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson was joined by the MP in calling for nominations for the vInspired National Awards, the country’s largest celebration of young volunteers.

In an Olympic and Paralympic year the awards recognise people aged 16-25 and youth workers who have made a major contribution to their communities through volunteering.

The categories include best young volunteer aged 11-17, all round commitment to volunteering and outstanding contribution by a youth worker.

Ms Pearce said: "I'd really like to see young volunteers from Erith and Thamesmead represented.

"If you know a great young volunteer who could be an inspiration to others, this is the year to give them the recognition they deserve so please nominate them for the awards."

Baroness Grey Thompson added: "The past year has really shown us what amazing stuff volunteers can achieve."

The awards will take place at the Roundhouse in Camden on March 26, 2013.
