AN "INSPIRATIONAL" Bexley Guide has won a prestigious award.
Nicola Umney, 16, from Bexleyheath Guides, received a Jack Petchey Achievement Award at a combined Scouts and Guides event.
One hundred and fifty one young winners aged 11-25 received medallions, framed certificates and cheques for £200 for the benefit of their club or school.
They were nominated by peers and leaders including teachers, parents, and supporting adults.
Nicola's citation said: "Nicola is an inspirational young woman.
"She was in care until the age of three and after a very unsettled start in life was adopted into a loving, caring family and has become a well-balanced and generous young woman.
"Nicola has been a Brownie, a Guide and now a Ranger and at each stage of her involvement in guiding she has always encouraged and included other members of her unit.
"Nicola is assisting at a struggling Brownie unit which she attends weekly and is a popular member of the team with the leaders and, more importantly, the girls."
