BECKENHAM school children got the chance to quiz one of London’s MEP on the European Union on Friday (12).

Fifty pupils from Langley Park School for Girls in Hawksbrook Lane posed questions to the Green MEP on issues facing young people today including unemployment and access to education.

Mrs Lambert said: “I really enjoyed meeting the students at Langley Park and answering the questions they’d come up with.

“It’s fantastic that around 50 pupils were involved in the session as this is a great way to get people thinking about the EU’s role.

“Many young people feel powerless to change the world, and can become disengaged from their local communities.

“This is why we need to find new ways to turn our youngest generation onto politics.”

The 62-year-old also spoke about the EU’s role in tackling climate change and air quality.

She is one of eight MEPs representing London and one of two UK Green representatives in the European Parliament.

Langley Park School for Girls teacher Eileen Ward, who organised the question and answer session, says she admires Mrs Lambert passion for the job.

The geography teacher said: “I chose Jean Lambert because I wanted someone to come and talk about the EU in a positive way.

“She has been really good each time she comes because she is passionate about her job and she is a good role model.”

Mrs Ward says she the MEP would answer any of the student’s questions even how much she earns.
