Cray moved themselves four places up the table to twelfth with a 3-1 win at Enfield Town.

After the nationwide initiative on Non-League Day to get more fans to come and watch this level of football, Enfield and Cray must be credited for their attempts to play a high-tempo flowing game.

The three points were certainly a good tonic for the Cray camp who will have seen encouraging signs from the team's performance.

There was evidence that new signing Paul Vines will add height and force to the Wands' forward line, while the return of Jack Clark will bring back the options that the fleet-footed winger provides on the left.

Perhaps the most impressive new face in Cray's reshuffled line-up at the Queen Elizabeth II stadium was midfielder Alex Stavrinou, returning from injury to add steel and skill in front of the back four.

Cray were ahead on four minutes when Leigh Bremner was hauled down and from just outside the penalty-area Clark clipped the free-kick into the net.

Enfield couldn't find the killer final ball to capitalise on some determined pass-and-run traffic towards the Cray goal, with Andy Walker making some agile saves and tip-overs when the home side did get close to the target.

Breakaway attacks saw Cray twice go close when Michael Power and Bremner headed narrowly wide.

Cray doubled their lead on 44 minutes when Billy Burgess skipped through to reach the byeline on the right and his pass reached Stavrinou whose shot was too fierce for Noel Imber in the home goal.

Twelve minutes after the restart Enfield's danger man Adam Wallace reduced the arrears with an assured finish.

Cray had to dig deep to stop the initiative passing to the home side, but their defence held firm with Walker making a great close-range save from Mark Kirby.

Another goal seemed to be coming in a hell-for-leather finish to the game, and it was Cray who got it in the 89th minute.

A clumsy tackle on Chris Saunders earned a penalty-kick that Bremner tucked away to earn a very good win for the Wanderers.

Cray: Walker, Burgess, Sterling, Stavrinou, Willy, Day, Power, Saunders, Bremner, P Vines (Hamici 90) Clark. Subs not used:
Fray, Lozano, Peauroux, Sproson.

Cray are away to Faversham Town on Tuesday night in the Ryman League Cup (7.45pm) and away to Concord Rangers in the Ryman Premier next Saturday (3pm)
