AN accident at the junction of Shooters Hill Road and Academy Road in Woolwich may have left a moped driver with life-changing injuries, police say.

Officers were called out at 5.48am to reports of a collision between the moped and a car.

The moped rider, believed to be in his 30s, was taken by the ambulance as a priority to the Royal London Hospital's major trauma unit.

A spokeswoman for the Met Police said: "The injuries sustained are believed to be life changing."

Following the accident, there was widespread traffic chaos in the surrounding area, though the road has now been reopened.
