A TEENAGER from Welling will be responsible for a quarter of the UK’s electricity network as part of his new career.
Stuart Jiggins, aged 18, of Ashmore Grove, is one of 11 trainees joining UK Power Network’s Apprentice programme to become jointers, linesmen and fitters across the electricity distribution network.
During the next three years, Stuart will be based at the Falconwood depot where he will be mentored by a team of experienced field staff.
Stuart said: “I was at college for a year studying electronics and electrical engineering.
“I always felt an apprenticeship would be better for me – I like the concept of ‘learn and earn.’
“So I saw this opportunity and was lucky enough to get it - it’s a secure future and perhaps it will lead to being multi-skilled, which would be good.”
When Stuart’s apprenticeship is complete, he will become part of the full workforce.
