Residents urged to share memories of Greenwich shipping history for interactive photowalk

GREENWICH residents and historians are being urged to share their memories of the town’s shipping history to create an interactive photowalk along the river.
The Thames Trail will allow viewers to explore Greenwich’s industrial, shipbuilding and trading heritage from its 19th Century heydey to the present.
The photowalk will start at the Cutty Sark and follow the riverside path - winding pust wharves, jetties, and other signs of the industrial past - to the Thames Barriers.
People can contribute by sharing memories of how the area has changed, as well as volunteering to test the route, or learning to use research archives.
The project, which will also feature a phone app, is run by the Viewfinder Photography Gallery with Greenwich Heritage Centre and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Head of Heritage Lottery Fund London Sue Bowers said: "This is a project that will harness 21st century technology to bring to life a bygone era of the Greenwich riverside. In so doing it will provide those taking part with a range of new skills."
