Paramount theme park in Swanscombe: Titanic and Shrek rides for north Kent?

News Shopper: Paramount theme park in Swanscombe: Titanic and Shrek rides for north Kent? Paramount theme park in Swanscombe: Titanic and Shrek rides for north Kent?

THE POSSIBILITIES for attractions inside proposed Paramount theme park at Swanscombe are endless.

Taking a look at the Paramount Pictures portfolio and rides previously built at the company’s theme parks, north Kent thrill-seekers may be in for a treat if the plans get the go ahead.

The firm has reeled off blockbuster after blockbuster since it was established in 1912.

Titanic, the Paranormal Activity trilogy, Shrek, the 2003 re-make of the Italian Job and the Spongebob Squarepants movie – these all came from Paramount headquarters in Hollywood.

Even last year’s Justin Bieber – Never Say Never the Movie was a Paramount production.

There were previously six Paramount theme parks in the United States but these were all sold-off and re-branded during a company re-shuffle in 2006.

Today, they are operated without the Paramount backing but in their heyday, rides on offer included Tomb Raider: The Ride and The Italian Job: Stunt Tracks.

The Italian Job themed ride was a huge family rollercoaster, boasting flames and water as well as props from the movie.

But the theme park in Swanscombe is not the only Paramount theme park on the horizon – another is set to open in Murcia, Spain, in 2015.

With the site some 270-miles from Madrid, the 100-acre theme park promises to create 20,000 jobs in the area.

Current figures are predicting an extra three million visitors will flock to the theme park and surrounding area every year.

A Titanic exhibition is among the attractions expected at the Spanish park, which will use special effects to depict the sinking of the ship to punters.

Elsewhere on the site a 4D Mission: Impossible ride will take visitors through action scenes on board a military style vehicle.

What would you like to see from the Swanscombe theme park and more importantly, what do you think it should be called?

Are you excited about the prospect or instead hesitant about the extra deluge of visitors it could bring to the region?

I will never understand this country - we all want the perfect solution and all the answers before we dare to say anything positive. Yes there will be disruption and I dare say there will be traffic jams. Most of those that moan about traffic are the same people that refuse to try another mode of transport. Come on guys - think bigger picture! This is going to be fabulous for our local economy. Get behind it and give it the support it deserves!!
