Asda Bexleyheath shopper describes scuffle to buy reduced food

Asda in Bexleyheath. Asda in Bexleyheath.

STAY BACK B*TCH - this is the abuse one Bexleyheath shopper suffered trying to get her hands on Asda’s reduced food.

Julia Burch from Bexleyheath was shopping in the superstore, in The Broadway, on Friday (September 28) evening when a staff member emptied a tray of knocked down food into a freezer.

What happened shortly after 6.15pm has been described by Mrs Burch as "nothing short of a football scuffle" between four or five mature adults.

She explained: "I heard one say ‘quick form a circle around the freezer so no one else can get in.’

"The member of staff was nearly pushed over.

"I leant forward to get something and was elbowed and was told to ‘stay back b*tch.’

"I was furious and to be quite honest it made me more determined to get something even though I did not want it."

She added: "They grabbed everything and put it into trolleys and pulling items off people that did manage to get something."

When Mrs Burch later questioned staff in the supermarket about the mobbing in the freezer, she was told it was normal.

She says the staff member explained the same crowd often hang around for up to two hours waiting for the reduced items to be put on the shelves.

Mrs Burch added: "I understand times are hard but this was nothing short of rudeness and ill-mannered.

"I have to question why they want so much food, and how big are their freezers to hold such vast quantities.

"With so many complaints about the young people I have to say these ‘mature adults’ put the generation to shame."

Asda did not provide a comment by our deadline.

Yes times are hard for most people but that really is embarrassing as far as Im concerned! Not to mention totally shocking behaviour! Sounds to me like ASDA need to have a word with these people as they are obviously known by members of staff of the store.

1) It's Asda.

2) If you want a snap shot of how bad the UK is, walk around Asda.

3) Julia Burch, you could just chalk it up as experience, but no you had to ring the paper.

All of this is just very sad.

I was shopping in there last month and I happened to be walking past the area with discounted food.
I couldn't get through, there were crowds of people hanging around and I didn't understand why. All I wanted was to get some coleslaw.
Next thing, an Asda staff member chucked lots of discounted goods down.
Well, it was like a flock of seagulls grabbing what they can without even looking. I was expecting to see David Attenborough to come out of the swarm of seagulls!
Mad, but so funny to watch.

this happened to me in there on monday of this week - disgraceful behaviour and staff member laughing when i almost got knocked over! I get that times are hard, i also was looking mainly so i could cook it straight away.
There were 3 men hanging around the edge of aisle when the lady was unloading them, then as i approached to just have a little look, they barged me out of the way and had some veg crates with them, they emptied the shelves into the crates and walked off laughing. Now if they are people who work with the homeless or less fortunate people, then i am certain the big supermarkets do food donation rather than this aggravation being witness by normal customers.
I have to be honest, i dont think that i will go there after work again, as not a great experience!

It seems like we are becoming a nation of pushers; queues, buses and now shops!

If you think this is bad you should go to Charlton.

Asdas parent company is Walmart a huge chain of mega stores in the USA.

Google or just search 'Walmartians', this is where we are headed. Awful, dreadful, Jesus H Christ please no !!

Just would like to put the record straight. I did not get on the phone to the newshopper, I sent the story in as a letter which I thought was interesting, sad and amusing. Unfortunately an article was made out of it. Thanks. Julia Burch

Bexleyheath was a nicer place before they put the bus stops in, buses coming in from every area of the borough attracting all sorts of people. I live in bexley and personally think it's a nice place, i shop in asda and i've never had a problem with it but the people in bexleyheath and asda are getting worse by the day! When tesco or morrisons in welling was being refurbished, the amount of wrong'uns we got in asda was unreal

I go shopping in there on Saturday evening and this same group are always there. They hang around the area where the reduced stuff is deposited like a flock of sea gulls circling a rubbish dump. they have trolleys and crates at the ready and when the ASDA employee brings it, they grab it all and sweep it into their waiting trolleys. They all discuss it and then co-ordinate their actions like a military operation. I watch with a kind of horrified fascination. I thought about filming it, but they actually look a bit scary.

@ “the Wall”. Your comments re this situation are, in your own words, very sad. Not only are you suggesting that this should be considered reasonable and appropriate behaviour (in a jungle perhaps), but you impugn someone who I’m sure you don’t know from Adam. Ms Burch isn’t content to watch human behaviour (& the world) go down the “S” bend and call it normal, as you suggest. Her view is normal, I’d worry for us all if yours was. Before you again expose yourself and your views to further scrutiny and inevitable ridicule, try learning a little about the importance of co-operative behaviour to the survival of a species. Swotting up on your spelling might be useful too – there’s no “r” in “debacle”...

So are going to Asda to teach these people how to behave and conduct one's self around the discounted items? Or do you just pick on other peoples opinions because it make's you feel big and clever.

You read a lot in to the wall's post that just is not there. I think you need help. Some Homo Sapiens are not that far removed from the jungle, as proved by the discount item scrum and many other situations.

So I looked forward to reading about your work out in the field and you being put head first into the frozen veg section of Asda.

In the words of the wall - get over yourself!

I've been there, it's comical. Bloke browned his pants when he went to barge past me & ended up on the deck as I didn't give ground. They are like flies around poop. I wouldn't mind, but I was pushing a pram & was not interested in any 3p sandwiches. I've heard catford tesco is the place to be.

I have been in asda at the time the food is reduced and you are barged out of the way, while they line up around the poor staff while they are filling the fridge up, they then just tip it all into their waiting trolleys! They dont care what they take as long as they get it! It is the same people everytime, they should be given an ASBO for their behaviour as they should know better !
