BEXLEY is celebrating after raking in seven awards during the London in Bloom competition.

The borough received Best Country Park in London for Footscray Meadows and golds for Danson Park in Welling and Waterside Gardens in Crayford.

Extensive improvements made to Parish Wood Park in Blackfen were also recognised with the park winning a silver gilt award in the Park of the Year category.

Other successes included Hillview Cemetery winning a silver gilt and Harland Avenue allotment being highly commended in the Best Allotment category.

While Welling residents, Alan and Rosemarie Raymond were awarded third place in the Front Garden category.

Cabinet member for environment and public realm, Councillor Gareth Bacon, said: "This fantastic success across a variety of parks, open spaces, allotments and individual residents shows Bexley at its very best.

"Success comes through working with others, getting the community involved in local projects and residents taking pride in their local area."
