FOLLOWING 27-years out of the ring, a former Bexley police officer is set to fight it out with a heavyweight boxing champion to raise money for charity.

Detective Superintendent Darren Williams, who moved on from tackling crime in Bexley earlier this year, will take on two times world heavyweight champion ‘Terrible’ Tim Witherspoon on October 12.

Now borough commander for Merton, his fight will be part of The Night of Champions, which will be held Wellington Barracks in London.

Britain’s only undefeated boxing world champion Joe Calzaghe will also be taking to the ring on the night.

All funds raised by the evening of fighting will be donated to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Call 07718 629141 to book tickets, which cost £100 including a three-course meal, wine and a raffle.
