Lewisham Council wins award for being one of Britain's "greenest councils"
LEWISHAM Council has won an award for being one of the “greenest councils” in Britain.
The council competed against more than 500 in a campaign to find Britian’s greenest companies, councils and communities for the Green Apple Environment Award.
Its winning entry involved collecting two tonnes of electrical waste from the borough which has led to a 47 percent increase in monthly electrical waste disposal.
Lewisham Council’s cabinet member for customer services Cllr Susan Wise said: “Once again we are delighted to have been recognised by winning a national award for being one of the greenest councils in Britain.
“Lewisham is proud of the work we do to raise awareness of how to dispose of different types of old electrical appliances in an environmentally-friendly way.
She added that with the support of staff and residents, the council will work “tirelessly” to maintain this reputation.
The council will be presented with their award at a ceremony in the House of Commons on November 12.
