'Emergency services' worker killed in M25 collision

POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the M25 close to Orpington yesterday afternoon (September 25).

A pedestrian, who is believed to be a member of the emergency services, was in collision with a maroon Vauxhall Vectra on the M25 near junction five at about 2.15pm.

Despite numerous resuscitation attempts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 3.15pm.

Another woman, in her 30's, was suffering back and abdomen pain and was sent as a priority patient to Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough at around 4pm.

This led to the closure of the clockwise stretch of the motorway between junctions four (Orpington) and five (Sevenoaks).

Both carriageways of the M26 were closed for over an hour while the air ambulance attended the scene but the medical staff could not save the pedestrian.

A Kent Police spokesman has not confirmed whether or not the pedestrian was a member of the emergency services but has said they had been there dealing with an earlier accident.

This earlier accident involved one vehicle and happened at around 1.40pm by junction five and one person sustained a minor injury.

Kent Police says the maroon Vectra in the second incident had been travelling from the direction of Dartford towards Surrey.

The closed stretch of motorway was reopened at around 11pm. Any witnesses are asked to call Kent Police on 01622 798538.
