Erith man Michael McCluskey in custody over £50,000 cash robbery

POLICE have arrested an Erith man in connection with a £50,000 robbery.

Michael McCluskey, 25, is in custody over the cash-in-transit robbery which happened at a petrol station in Cuxton Road, Rochester, at around 11.50am on September 19.

On Sunday (September 23) senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Kevin Downard took the unusual step of naming McCluskey as someone police would like to speak to about the robbery.

Following on from this appeal, officers today arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of robbery.

He is currently in custody at North Kent police station.

Four arrests have now been made over the incident in which more than £50,000 was stolen, with witnesses reporting seeing a weapon which caused firearms officers to be deployed, though no shots were fired.

Yesterday (September 24) detectives charged 25-year-old George Brockett with conspiracy to rob.

Brockett, aged 25, of Mangold Way, Erith, has been remanded in custody to appear at Dartford and Gravesham Magistrates' Court on October 1.

A 17-year-old boy from Erith and a 22-year-old Gravesend woman have also been arrested on suspicion of the same offence.

The teenager is still in custody while the woman has been released on police bail until October 30.
