Be inspired! New drive to get Bexley active

PEOPLE across Bexley are being invited to be inspired by the Olympics and take part in sport and leisure.

Bexley Council has launched a Join In campaign which tells people how and why to join local clubs and societies.

Erith Yacht Club, in Anchor Bay, Erith, has received millions in Olympic legacy funding to become a community facility.

New members can join sailing, racing and powerboating courses in the upcoming autumn programme.

Those inspired by Judo silver medalist Gemma Gibbons can try martial arts at Bexley Judokwai on Sydney Road in Sidcup.

It is running taster sessions for people from aged five onwards.

There are also all-round fitness sessions on at Bexley Park Sports and Social Club running seven days a week.

Councillor Don Massey, cabinet member for sport and leisure at Bexley Council, said: “Bexley is blessed with a huge network of local sports clubs.

“Many are running events and taster sessions in response to the excitement and interest generated by London 2012.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to try their hand at something new and work towards a more active and healthy lifestyle.”
