Bromley police crack down on uninsured drivers with 300 cars seized
POLICE have seized over 300 uninsured vehicles seized across Bromley in the last five and half months.
MPS Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe launched the crackdown at the end of last year to target criminals and disrupt their activities by denying them the use of London's roads.
Police say approximately 80 per cent of uninsured drivers have a criminal record, with many actively using their vehicles to facilitate their offending.
These drivers are also five times more likely to be involved in collisions and a reduced chance the vehicles will be in a roadworthy condition.
Chief Inspector Carron Schusler said: "We're sending a strong message to people who choose to drive without insurance - we will seize and possibly sell or crush your vehicle."
Driving without insurance is an offence under the Road Traffic Act. The penalty for driving a vehicle without insurance, an offence under the Road Traffic Act, is six penalty points and £200 fine.
It can also lead to a driving ban.

Drivers should have to display proof of insurance similar to a tax disc in the windscreen of the car.

"Crack down" season again already... My, how time flies.

She couldn't care less. My only option would have been to take her to court, but as she's on benefit what good would it do?

Good! I was rammed by an uninsured (and untaxed) driver - ended up losing my no-claims

even with insurance to drive any car, the car you are actually driving still needs to be insured, so a disc in the window to show this would work but now that most of the tax/mot/insurance is computerised the police can tell if a car is being driven legally before they pull it over.
