FIREFIGHTERS spent nearly four hours overnight tackling an unattended tree log fire in Meopham.

The Thameside crew first received news of the fire in Wrotham Road at 11:10am yesterday (September 20).

When they attended the blaze – which was close to St John’s Church – they found no one was controlling the burning of tree logs.

Staying at the scene until 3:05am this morning (September 21), the firefighters used a fire fogging unit and hose to extinguish the flames.

The job continued throughout the night as crews then damped down the area around the fire, to ensure it would not reignite after they left.
