A FIREFIGHTER’S battle with cancer has inspired his colleagues to scale the height of Everest – in a shopping centre.
Bromley’s red watch will be climbing up and down a ladder in The Glades shopping centre on September 29, until they have climbed the equivalent of 8,848m.
At a ladder length of around 12m they will have to go up around 700 times to reach this distance.
Firefighter Dave Kelly said: “If we reach that height then we are going to keep going.
“We have set ourselves this as a target and anything else is a bonus.
“Our colleague Philip Osborn has cancer and he is going through treatment, he is the inspiration for the whole event.”
All sponsorship money raised will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support, The Lymphoma Association and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
