Woolwich man guilty of murdering wife before Christmas

A 42-YEAR-OLD man has been convicted of stabbing his wife to death at their Woolwich home just before Christmas last year.

Bentley Huggins, of Elliston House, Wellington Street, denied murdering Desirie Thomas, claiming he only stabbed her 10 times in the head and neck in self-defence.

But today (Sept 19) an Old Bailey jury found him guilty in a unanimous verdict.

The 35-year-old mother was found lying face down in a pool of blood by police on December 23.

Hours before, her husband - who was allowed in the UK on a marriage visa - found out she wanted a divorce which would have left him homeless.

Huggins will be sentenced tomorrow.
