First-class student looks to hit high notes in career after restoring 160-year-old piano
A FIRST-CLASS Lewisham student is looking to hit the high notes in her career after restoring a 160-year-old piano for her degree.
Judith Hamm painstakingly restrung and polished the square piano back into tune as part of a degree in conservation.
The former pupil of Prendergast Hilly Fields College, in Brockley, graduated with first-class honours in furniture: conservation, restoration, and decorative arts, and hopes to sell the piece to a piano collector.
The 21-year-old said: "Seeing the piano restored and able to be played again was a very satisfying moment. It was not in a good condition when I first came across it but I was pleased to be able to make it presentable again.
"Now I am focused on pursuing my career. It is a tough industry but I hope that I can forge a niche for myself with the skills I have gained at Bucks New University.
"I am passionate about furniture conservation and restoration and I hope this stands me in good stead as I head out in to the world of work."
The high-flying graduate studied at Buckinghamshire New University.
