Swanley dog attack mum says bull terrier should be put down

A MOTHER-OF-THREE is demanding a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross be put down after claiming it viciously attacked her daughter and their dog.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm on Thursday (September 6) in a walk way adjacent to Hockenden Lane in Swanley.

Jenny Goodall and her 23-year-old daughter Dominique were walking their 14-month-old Alaskan Malamute, called Makita, and a 16-month-old Shih Tzu called Angel.

As they passed a woman with a staffie and a staffie-cross, the male dog launched its unprovoked attack on Makita.

Mrs Goodall, of Lynden Way, Swanley, said: "It happened so quick.

"The woman was kicking it to get it off and screaming.

"My friend's boyfriend, who has a broken arm in plaster, eventually managed to pick the dog up and throw him."

According to Mrs Goodall, the woman claimed she worked for Battersea Dogs Home and had recently re-homed the dogs.

Mrs Goodall, 42, said: "The dog should be put to sleep.

"I never thought I would hear myself say that about any dog.

"But that animal has viciously attacked my dog and my daughter for no reason whatsoever."

Dominique was taken to Darent Valley Hospital suffering from puncture wounds to the back of her knee and calf after trying to save her pet, while Makita received puncture wounds to her leg.

Miss Goodall told News Shopper: "If it had been a child attacked like this it wouldn't have survived."

Her mum added: "At the end of the day it should never have happened.

"If you can't control your dog keep it on a lead."

Bromley Police confirmed they had been called to the incident.

A Battersea Dogs Home spokeswoman said: "We understand Kent Police were called to investigate an incident in Swanley involving two dogs.

"As we do not have any firm information on the circumstances of the incident, nor information about any injuries that may have been sustained, we are unable to provide any further comment at this time."

Don't know why my comment has been removed. It was all fact, maybe some people can't face the truth.

I hope you know what type of training and needs a Alaskan Malamute must have.

Our dog is very well trained and is walked and has a large garden too ...

They tend to have natural hunting instincts which often leads them to chase smaller animals, So while Malamutes are particularly good around people, it is necessary to be mindful of them around smaller animals.

Have you got the dog a paddling pool for hot summer days to cool off in?

Well done. They are great dogs when looked after correctly. You do sound like you know what you are doing.

our dog was walking quietly beside my daughter and the other dog ran full speed and tried to bite my dogs throat ....and for everyones information the staff had already run up to our dog and growled menacingly and our dog didnt react but was kept close to our side and walked away from that situation ... also ive never known a male to attack a female dog ... and another thing i for 20 years owned staffs and have never had a problem with them but that dog attacked for no reason whatsoever .

I'm the owner of the Mally who was attacked and the one who was attacked.

I wasn't panicking, my dog was held to my side with slack in her lead.

If I hadn't had her at my side then there's every possibility my dog would have been killed instead of just injured. I keep control of her.

sam_STOP BSL says...

im on about pulling the lead up high so pulling the dog up higher than the attacker or more dominet dog and as long as your remainig carm and there is slack in the lead it would of been alright. if ur dog was not under control then there is every chance she would of been killed i.e mirroring the staffy

Her lead was down by my hip - and she's taller than the 'dominant' dog. I had my body between her and the other dog. She was right against a hedge on the leash, he was on the other side of the pathway/roadway and off-leash.

She's always under control, it's the only reason I'll let her off-leash at all.

I know exactly what types of training and needs an Alaskan Malamute has, and my dogs needs are always met with enrichment, positive enforcement and puzzles that work her mind properly.

Your comment was removed because it was malicious. My dog is walked between 5-7 miles a day along with an enormous garden to run about in and frequent training sessions.

Makita is actually good with smaller animals. We have pygmy hedgehogs which she just sits and watches. She's never been aggressive in her life - ie she'll bark at a pigeon but only from the back doorstep and does the same to cats etc.

From the above report it sounds like a dog on dog attack with the young woman getting in the way to help her dog. This is no reason to request a dog be put to sleep. I'd question whether the owners of the dogs that were attacked had too many animals with them at the time and were out of control. All should be prosecusted if the dogs were not on leads.
I wonder if these people are in social housing and if their tenancy agreements are breached owning so many dogs?

our dogs were on leads and there was 4 adults including myself and my daughter the owner of the dog that attacked our dog had 2 dogs with her both were not on leads so in fact and according to law our dogs were on leashes in a public place and were not out of control .... Our dog didnt even fight back but just laid there whilst the unleashed dog bit her and my daughter

Tiny injury our dog has been left with a hole in her leg and unless u were there how the hell do u know what happened ... it was a very frightening experience and one i would never have to experience again my 11 year old son witnessed our dog being attacked and had he not of picked up our shih tzu in his arms then maybe that staff would of attacked our shih tzu then she would not be here today ... Both my dogs have been traumatized by this and have not really eaten much since .. How dare anybody say that it was a minor scratch i will give you my address so you can come inspect the wounds on both our dog and my daughter then see what you say .. Sorry but that looks like a minor injury, hardly the mauling you are portraying.

Look at this photo,

This is an injury my American Bulldog received from an out of control dog. As you can see that is a substantial wound not the little 'Scratch' your dog has.

I have seen injuries far worse then the injury your dog has caused by chainlink fencing.
