Orpington family plea for funds to bring their son home

AN ORPINGTON family is desperately appealing for money to bring their only son back home after he suffered an horrific quad biking accident abroad.

The Trott family, of Winchester Road, need to raise £20,000 to bring 18-year-old Joe home from the Greek island Corfu because his holiday insurance fails to cover quad bike accidents.

The former Bishop Justus pupil is described as “an experienced full-on biker” but, apparently, lost control of his four-wheeled machine which smashed into a wall on one side of the road.

Parents Tony and Leslie Trott are now trying to raise the large sum so they can air-ambulance Joe back to the UK with a medical team as soon as his condition improves.

Tony, a self-employed builder, said in a statement to the News Shopper: “It feels as if my world has collapsed, all we can do is pray.”

Colin Chinyani, whose 18-year-old son Ashley was also on the trip, says Joe’s condition is “life-threatening”.

“I got a phone call from my son, who was crying,” said Mr Chinyani, of Uplands Road, Orpington. “I have never heard my son cry.

“I was on the phone for about ten minutes before he stopped crying then he blurted out 'it's Joe, it's Joe'.”

Mr Chinyani flew out immediately after getting off the phone to his son and comforted Mr and Mrs Trott.

However, Mr Chinyani has returned to help drive a bid to secure money to bring Joe home.

But Mr and Mrs Trott remain by their son’s bedside in Corfu.

Before the tragedy Joe had recently started his application to join the Royal Marines.

A message on Joe’s sister’s Facebook page, posted on Friday, says: “We have had it confirmed that Joe's insurance will not pay out and in a couple of weeks he is going to need to come home by air ambulance which will cost somewhere in the region of £20,000.

“If there is anything you can do at your school or place of work that will help us get to our target as soon as possible then we would be eternally grateful.”

Why do so many idiots go on holiday and leave what little brains they have behind. No adequate insurance. No helmets. Bike allegedly unsafe and didn't check brakes before riding it. What an idiot. Why should he be brought home? All that will do is cost the NHS fortunes they can't afford. A further nail in things like Orpington Hospital just because of these thoughtless idiots on a boys holiday.

One more thing. Why does the NS make such a silly comment as an 18 year old being a "an experienced full on biker". How stupid is that 18 and experienced rider is an impossibility.

Petra, I really don't understand where your anger comes from. We have ALL done things that in life that in hindsight we regretted, unfortunately, Joe's had huge consequences.

It must be fantastic to sit on that pedestal of yours and judge everyone. I wish I could but I'm not perfect like you.

Unfortunately these insurance companies hardly make it easy for us to understand legal clauses.

I hope and pray that you are never in a position like this.

As a Mum to four I cannot imagine how traumatic this must be for Joe's Family.

I wish him a full recovery and hope he's home soon.

In response to Petra69
It just goes to show how small minded and limited education you have to prejudge and make assumptions. You have no idea of how the accident happened and our boys are intelligent and responsible young men. I suppose Petra you wouldn't happen to know and understand the definition of an accident. So I would strongly suggest you reserve your comment to yourself and let caring people do what should be a human and natural thing. It not all about money. It's about a young men's life and his future.

Colin. I think it's you that should check your facts. All the information I have put is from things placed on the web, mainly Facebook, by the family. If any is incorrect I suggest you ask them why they have put misleading info in the public do domain

Wow, Petra in some selfish way you have managed to turn a feed about a young man in a tragic accident into a conversation all about you. Do you not think this family is going through enough without you offering your "basically it's your own fault, tough luck" comments?? I strongly suggest if you don't agree with this report that you ignore it and go on with your clearly mundane life. I hope to god you never have to deal with a heartbreaking situation like this.

To the Trott family, I wish you all the best with your campaign to get Joe home safe and sound to get the treatment he needs. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I will certainly be depositing some money into your account. Xxx

Kylie. If can read thus is a comment section not an agree section. Donating is just plain foolish. For your info my family have - on three occasions - gone through far worse so I speak from lots of experience backed up by facts. Clearly the parents have much to blame themselves for but putting the begging bowl out to avoid their responsibilities makes it even worse.

Just to show how fake this is and that Colin-admin is a complete numbskull and I am right this is pasted from the families facebook page. Description
On Tuesday 28th August, whilst holidaying in Greece on his first lads holiday, Joseph Trott and his friends decided they would go Quadbiking. Joe and his friends were were assured that the bikes were safe and headgear wasn't necessary.

"In a horrific and tragic turn of events, Joseph Trott hurtled full speed into a brick wall as the brakes on his quad bike failed.

When police arrived at the scene the owners/workers of the quad biking company were seen to be trying to swap Joseph's Quadbike with another as it would seem they were aware of the faulty brakes on his bike. The police have since done nothing.

Such a cruel reality.

Joseph is currently on a life support machine in a Grecian hospital with a fractured skull and other very threatening injuries.

Joseph needs to be back in England in a hospital receiving the treatments he needs.

It is going to cost in excess of £30,000 to fly Joseph back to England where he can be cared for in a London hospital and receive the correct treatment to bring him back to full health.

We need your help to raise it!"

And they want you to donate to a private bank account of a Miss S Trott not a charity account, not a fundraising account, not a trustee account, could all easily be a big rouse

To petra69

I am close family friend of joes and his family and your comments are disgusting and unfair... Joe is seriously ill and the family genuinely need help! If you read something that you think is "false" then why not stop reading instead getting involved and chatting ****!!!! I hope if you or your family ever find yourself in a similar position that people don't adopt the same attitude as you!

I have managed, to get this Petra69 reported as he has a right to an opinion but not insulting people who are strongly affected, and hopefully taken off this site. Thank you all for staying strong on supporting Joes fundraising Plea. Please lets continue with the good focus. We will get other negative viewers but the fight must go on for Joe.
This is a family not claiming to be a charity organisation or a professional body but a carering family who has been affected unexpectedly with tragedy. Please do what you can to help Help Joe.
