Charlton and Harris Academy Greenwich Park launch youth player education scheme
8:00am Monday 10th September 2012 in News By Mark Chandler
CHARLTON'S youth academy has launched a bold new project for its young players with the help of a Greenwich secondary school.
The newly-named Harris Academy Greenwich Park, formerly Eltham Foundation School, has joined up with the Addicks to educate the youngsters.
Twelve players across Years 9 and 10 began attending the school last week.
Previously, they would have gone to schools scattered around London, but now they are all taken to Eltham by the club, doing their studies at the academy and going to the Sparrows Lane training ground three afternoons a week.
Former Portsmouth manager Paul Hart, who leads Charlton's youth academy, said: "Thankfully, we have found a school that is willing to take us on board, embrace our ideas and be flexible enough to allow the training to take place on a daily basis, but ensure the boys’ education requirements are met as well."
