Erith Playhouse to host The Calendar Girls Erith Playhouse to host The Calendar Girls

ONE of the first non-professional productions of The Calendar Girls is being staged in Erith.

The play, which is based on the true story of eleven Women’s Institute (WI) members who posed nude for a calendar to raise cash for charity, was released as a film starring Helen Mirren in 2003.

Since the original calendar was released by Yorkshire WI members in 1999, nearly £3 million has been raised for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

A cut of the performance license fee from the Erith show will also go to the charity.

Performances will run every night at 8pm at the Erith Playhouse, in the high street, from September 10 to 15.

Tickets cost £8 and are available by calling 01322 350345.

I remember when the stage version first played there were several reports in the media to the effect that this is a warm hearted family comedy about northern Women's Institute stalwarts, anybody going along hoping for a perv would be disappointed.

So who was on stage in Bromley getting their kit off? Lynda Bellingham, Rula Lenska, Jan Harvey & Ruth Madoc, all of them of are vintage totty & who do not look very much more like northern WI stalwarts than I do.
