A GIANT 10-foot television screen broadcasting the Olympic Games has proven popular across Gravesham.

Thousands of sports fans have enjoyed the high-definition coverage, which was shown at Higham Recreation Ground, Ebbsfleet United Football Ground and Meopham Cricket Club over the weekend.

Gravesham Council booked the giant screen more than two years ago, to ensure communities would have the best view of London 2012.

More than 250 people packed into Stonebridge Road, home of Ebbsfleet United Football Club, to watch Dartford sprint star Adam Gemili compete in the men’s 100m semi-finals on Sunday evening (August 5).

Ebbsfleet United events and marketing manager Maria Mucci said: “Everyone was screaming for Gemili, it was amazing. Everybody had a great time.”

The screen will continue to tour Gravesham this week, stopping off at Riverview Junior School on Friday (August 10) morning and Cascades Leisure Centre in the afternoon.

It will then move to Istead Rise Community Centre on Saturday (August 11) and Gravesend’s Community Square during the closing ceremony on Sunday (August 12).
