Adults with learning disabilities to use new Crayford Community Centre

ADULTS with learning disabilities are set to use a new community centre from November.

The Ken Boyce Centre in Slade Green  is currently used by 41 service users, with up to 22 of them visiting each day as a meeting point in the morning and afternoons.

From November they will use Crayford Community Centre and rooms at Crook Log and Erith Leisure Centre.

Letters were sent out to service users, their carers and other stakeholders at the start of the year outlining the need for an alternative centre.

They were offered the option of moving to one of Bexley's two other day centres, but the overwhelming majority asked the council to develop a solution based around their activities

Cabinet member for adults Services, Councillor Chris Taylor, said: "The decision to close the Ken Boyce Centre was reached only after long and in-depth consultation and I believe it fits in well with our wider ambition to modernise and improve our services for adults with learning disabilities."
